Little Rock was absolutely supernatural in his ability to discern the very first note of this song getting mixed in beneath a much louder song — probably a result of the fact that not only does he have perfect pitch but also a masters degree in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music.
For even if Junior were just teasing and never actually mixed Get It Off in until ten or fifteen minutes after playing the first couple of notes, if he heard those three or four notes and we were resting in the lounge Little Rock would jump up, grab my hand and drag me out to the middle of the dance floor — even if I didn’t want to go.
And I was never, EVER disappointed that I went.
