I’ll let Digby say what I thought upon reading this {although my thought balloon had tons of bad words in it}:

And exactly 1/2 of the people walking your way are so completely unhinged from consensual reality that they think Michael Huckabee – Michael Huckabee! who let a convicted rapist go scot-free in order to win brownie points from his rightwing pals – is qualified to be president.”

It is entirely possible that Huckabee IS the most qualified Republican to be president who is capable of running. Bob Dole, Nancy Landon Kassebaum Baker or her husband Howard Baker, are more qualified I think. I’m in Kansas and know these folks well. But they are all a bit long of tooth. The only other qualified Republicans I might vote for are all dead. Although the Democrats across the state line in Missouri beat Ashcroft with a dead man (Mel Carnahan), it is not practical to elect dead people to office. The Republicans are kind of fucked.

The day Huckabee becomes President is the day I either become a citizen of Canada or find a nice liberal, gay-affirming country in Europe to call home.
