QUOTE OF THE DAY

Tonight proved conclusively that we’re not going to turn out just because you have a (D) next to your name, or because Obama tells us to. We’ll turn out if we feel it’s worth our time and effort to vote, and we’ll work hard to make sure others turn out if you inspire us with bold and decisive action.

The choice is yours. Give us a reason to vote for you, or we sit home. And you aren’t going to make up the margins with conservative voters. They already know exactly who they’re voting for, and it ain’t you.

Markos Mulitsas Zuniga {aka The Great Orange Satan himself} over at DKos talking about Democratic incumbent complacency and the deep fucking mistake that all of them, from the lowest member of congress to the President his own self, make if they blithely assume we’ll turn out to vote for them just because we always have.

Frankly, I’ve told Jay Inslee personally and face to face that if he doesn’t openly and actively embrace a more progressive agenda — an agenda more in line with the desires of his constituents here in Washington-01 — that I’ll not only sit home next election but I’ll support his opponent just to shake things up a bit.

Because, frankly, it ain’t no big deal for a district like Washington-01 {or any reliably Blue congressional district for that matter} to gain a republican as its representative for a cycle or two if that gets the attention of the party leadership.

Fuck these people if they expect that they’ll always get our vote and then turn around and sell out liberal principals or renege on the promises that they’ve made to us.

Or even worse, just run shitty candidates the way they did in the Virginia Governor’s race or against that asshole Bloomberg in New York City.

Fuck ‘em.

Imagine if the Dems had run someone decent or gotten behind Thompson even a little? That pissy creep would have gotten his billionaire ass whopped.

I think the number of people who agree with your thoughts on this is increasing with every day in which “change we can believe in” doesn’t happen.

I was PISSED about the outcome in the Maine vote yet THRILLED that Sarah Palin’s choice lost big time in NY…ha! take that ya dumb bitch!

Really though, I have had enough of American politics. Nothing gets done and we spin our wheels. People campaign and govern on fear, ignorance and bigotry. The world around us is falling apart and the little guy gets no help. I sit here PLEADING for my unemployment benefits to kick in again but Congress can’t seem to find a couple of thousand bucks to help keep me, and the other millions like me, afloat. Everything I have is GONE, why should I even care anymore?!? If it were easy to move to Europe I would leave, Netherlands is looking mighty nice right now.

Gregorio, my sister is in a similar situation. She will probably end up losing her house as GOP Senators do all they can to delay passing an extension of unemployment benefits just for the sake of obstructing Democrats and nothing more. I, too, would love to say bye bye to the US for Canada or Europe. I’m receiving Social Security and might find myself better off in a more progressive society. The problem is my partner of 25 years would not be able to accompany me, so I’m stuck here for the foreseeable future.

I am out of patience with the Democrats which is why I became an “Independent” during the Clinton years. I survived eight years of the worst President ever, and although McCain/Palin might have been worse, I just may stay home or support a third party candidate next time around. I, too, am tired of being taken for granted. I got an early hint Obama would be a disappointment when I saw who he surrounded himself with, especially the corrosive Blue Dog recruiter, Rahm Emanuel. I think Kos hit it right on the head in his comment.

Kick ass and take names, Scott – I made and followed through on the same threat to Nancy Pelosi (though not in person, sadly) when she continually voted the wrong way in the first years of the Iraq War. Her abysmal record on the war was really the last straw for me and the Democratic Party.

Cause here’s the deal: human beings in huge social groups like nations have shown repeatedly that they’re just not capable of changing their behavior in time to head off disaster. Time and again, it has taken catastrophe to activate the will and energy of peoples. It’s the same principle one sees in action with addiction: addicts won’t change until their lives collapse. So voting for the right when the left is unresponsive is sometimes a great move…precipitate a crisis in order to precipitate a solution. The price can be high, very high indeed sometimes, but the price of inertia and inaction is pretty fucking high, too…

My god the Senate finally voted on an unemployment extension today, MAYBE I will see a check by Christmas if I am lucky at all! What a friggin joke this all is.
