WE’RE BAAAAAAAAAAAAACK

{Posted in Uncategorized on June 30th, 2008 by Scott }

So after a few very minor glitches — none of them the fault of my pet geek who is also my Brother-in-Law but which were the fault of the fucking ripoff web hosting service in Australialand that my prior geek saddled me with — we are now back in operation and happily ensconced at our new host.

I think we lost maybe 48 hours of blogging in the transition as well as the content of a grand total of just three posts so all in all it was actually a smooth move.

Oh, because of the move I had to dump comments that were coming in as the move took place so if you posted a comment and it's not showing that's probably why.

I'll be back to full blogging tomorrow but need to learn the latest version of the WordPress blogging software that we loaded during the switch so the blog may be a little wonky for a few days.

In the meantime — try to play nicely amongst yourselves.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

{Posted in Uncategorized on June 28th, 2008 by Scott }

"The Republican Party is a dead rotting carcass with a few decrepit old leaders stumbling around like zombies in a horror version of 'Weekend With Bernie,' handcuffed to a corpse."

Larry Hunter former chief economist of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and a liefelong republican

AND FOR OUR TEXAS READERS…..

{Posted in Election '08, Politics, Video on June 28th, 2008 by Scott }

Since we seem to have a pretty good sized group of BIE readers representing the Lone Star State I thought I'd run this ad that Democrat Rick Noriega's campaign just put up.

It's a response to Teh Awesome Big John advert that republican senator John Cornyn is running that I posted a couple of days ago.

As this Noriega ad points out — Cornyn has voted against pretty much every bill that would improve the lives of our military men and women and their families while talking a big game about how he "supports the troops."

Noriega is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard and led a combat unit in Afghanistan.  Senator John Cornyn was in a college fraternity.

Texas republicans seem to share a need to talk big about their support for our military but when it's time to actually serve their country they like to let others do the dirty work for them.

When I was in the Marines we had a name for people like that — we called them cowards.

2008 DARWIN AWARDS – UPDATE

{Posted in Video on June 27th, 2008 by Scott }

BIE reader Synrgy sent this video along to me as a sort of cherry on the sundae that was the Darwin Awards results that I posted below.

Try to be nice to each other this weekend.

THE LAST PICTURE FROM SAN FRANCISCO

{Posted in Family, My Life on June 27th, 2008 by Scott }

Seriously.

Hot House Steven Scarborough, your faithful blogger, and Richard the blogger's boyfriend.

This was taken on the red carpet at some place in SF that Steven and Brent took us our first night in town.

Richard and I have an agreement that his face will never appear in the blog because he's pretty much a celebrity and definitely does NOT need the exposure that Bill in Exile can bring him.

I mean, it's bad enough that he's married to me right?

QUOTE OF THE DAY

{Posted in Election '08, Politics, Quote of the Day on June 27th, 2008 by Scott }

"Never will a campaign predict a landslide, but if only, say, half of the assumptions that guide Obama's general election strategy are true, his campaign is, in essence, preparing for a landslide in the popular vote. There's no way that 10,000 Obama volunteers in Texas won't influence his vote totals there even if he doesn't win."
