Hey little sister who's your Superman?

I WON’T BE SEEING ZERO DARK THIRTY

Not for the reasons that many people say this movie should be ignored.

But because director Kathryn Bigelow hasn’t the first fucking clue about how to make a realistic movie about the military or war.

I, along with just about every other military veteran I know, laughed our asses off at the abject ridiculousness of The Hurt Locker.  The errors were so many, so glaring, and so ridiculous that I simply don’t have the time or energy to detail them.

And we laughed even harder at the Motion Picture Academy when they awarded it Best Picture and Bigelow Best Director among other “Bests” the film was nominated for.

I had non-military friends who saw The Hurt Locker before I did and who told me it was the best war movie they had ever seen.

When I saw it I thought exactly the opposite — and ranked it right down there with Red Dawn {the original with Patrick Swayze} and Return of the Jedi as one of the very worst.

Bigelow’s ludicrous fantasy world of how the military operates should preclude her from ever making another movie having anything to do with the military or war.

  1. I wont grow up Says:

Red Dawn sucked great big donkey balls, and NOT in a good way.

  2. Nic Says:

Agree. This from the director of POINT BREAK. HURT LOCKER was so vastly over rated.

  3. Dukeinct Says:

Thank you for the heads up. I absolutely respect your opinion. Have two brothers who served in Desert Storm. Both told me the same about Hurt Locker

  4. TJ Says:

You are under no obligation to substantiate your claims, and I never saw The Hurt Locker, and I never served in the military. However, I respect your insight and integrity on many things. Would you be willing to give an example or two?

  5. Patrick Says:

    Nope.

  6. rugbysex Says:

    i’ll try this again.
    happy new year scott!
i for one would really like to know what it is you didn’t like about the hurt locker. i saw it and really liked it but i’m non-military. i afford you jarheads enormous respect. my grandfather was army and watching hollywood WWII movies used to make his BP go sky high. lol. i know ur busy but if sometime, you have the time, i really would like to know what you didn’t like about the movie. always like to learn how and whenever i can.
    cheers mate!

  7. Jay Says:

Thanks for the word. Don’t need any yanking on my gyroscope’s thin-enough rope.

  8. Scott Says:

Sure thing TJ and Rugbysex — first of all, an EOD team {Explosive Ordnance Disposal} would NEVER venture out into a combat zone without at the very least a full platoon of combat infantry in support. That they were shown out in the desert tooling around all on their own was a fucking joke.

Also, running around off base through the streets of Baghdad in civvies and carrying a pistol during a war? Never fucking happen!

And native civilians being allowed to run around on base apparently unsupervised??? Again, never gonna happen in real life.

And General Order Number 1 of the US DOD prohibits alcohol in possession by anyone in the military in five countries — including Iraq. So the scene in the barracks where they’re getting shitfaced? Total crap!

There were a number of other, equally egregious examples, but you probably get my drift.

  9. Continuum Says:

“Hurt Locker” may be bad but surely nothing surpasses John Wayne in “The Green Berets”.

Right wing, nut job fantasy doesn’t come close to saying enough about that Vietnam era film.

Fortunately, “The Duke” makes up for it in “True Grit”.

  10. Scott Says:

Oh man! I forgot about The Green Berets!

The only saving grace in that entire movie was George Takei.

  11. TJ Says:

Thanks, Scott. I appreciate your sharing. And such glaring mistakes, we’re I to see them, would be deal-breakers.

  12. brian london Says:

is she claiming her work is factually correct? Because an ex was of mine was a lift engineer and he couldn’t watch diehard.

  13. Will Says:

Whether anybody in LaLa Land shared your disregard for her lack of military knowledge or not, Scott, they certainly did freeze her out of consideration for an Oscar.

  14. jdw Says:

But they didnt squeeze her out of the oscar for hurt locker . as scott says , if you are gonna reward talent at least make it accurate. Luckily I had no interest in the hurt locker. I had considered ZDT simply because I think Jessica Chastain is hot. I cant believe I said that but she is hotter that Brad Pitt and Bradley Cooper . lol. I havent had a girl crush since the fourth grade. !
