The only truly spontaneous thing that can happen in one of these debates is a catastrophic blunder of a kind that neither one of these men ever has made in his public life, the president because he’s walked a fine line on what he says since he was a teenager, and Romney because risk never has been his business. If, afterwards, you are told that one of these men was better at being something he’s not than the other guy was, you are being conned. Pay it no heed and turn to Honey Boo Boo.”
