THERE ARE GREAT PEOPLE ON FACEBOOK
Sooooo this morning I posted this picture on my FB page:
Which resulted in a comment from a guy named Austin Cooper who took deep and abiding exception to the sentiments contained therein.
Deep and abiding exception couched in the most moronic, deeply ignorant and incredibly uneducated English grammar and usage imaginable.
Austin, you see, does not believe himself to be a racist.
However, here are a couple of the images Austin has posted on his Facebook page that he finds highly amusing:
And of course, because Austin is, in fact, a racist — as well as an imbecilic cretin — he thinks that there was an actual debate going on this morning on Facebook and that he won it.
Facebook’s Austin Cooper ladies and gentlemen — the modern voice and face of the racism and deep stupid that infests our body politic today and that we must all fight to keep from further polluting our national discourse.

I think many of the Tea Party folks truly don’t understand what the word “racist” means. This is astonishing ignorance on their part, but their mind set is so deeply ingrained that they don’t understand what it is–or how hateful it is. Case in point, my 85 year old father who would e-mail photos of Obama like the ones you posted from Moron’s website, or e-mail the most astonishingly tasteless racist jokes abotu Obama. I kept asking him not to send me such racist things and he finally said, “I guess I’m just a dumb hick, ’cause I don’t see what’s racist about any of this stuff. I think it’s pretty funny, but your choice if you don’t want the laugh.”
In many ways my father is incredibly loving, generous, and kind. He’s genuinely not in the slightest prejudiced about gays. When my partner and I visited, my partner was immediately welcomed as a member of the family, introduced to everyone in town as my partner and “my other son.” I don’t understand HOW he couldn’t understand that a pix of Obama as a witchdoctor, or as a monkey, is racist. So I can only ascribe it to deeply rooted prejudice that is so pervasive he doesn’t see it.
Which doesn’t excuse it at all. It’s a mindset that leaves me shaking my head at the depths of the ignorance.

To Paul . . . I know *exactly* of that which you speak of with your father. It is something so deeply rooted they can’t even begin to see it. It is so ingrained that they are blind to it. It drives me nuts to deal with family like this — they are just clueless to the world outside of their safe/comfort zone.

Wait, Austin is a Gay for Romney? WTF?!

@Bret, I was thinking the same thing… WTF? Guess some people just like being treated like second class citizens by Republicans.

There was an article in the NY Times (forgot which day) that stated:
One of the Rep. delegates talking to some other folks was throwing peanuts at a black reporter, and he said to them, “This is how we feed the animals.” And they say they are not racist. Bullshit!!!

This is *exactly* the reason why I terminated my FaceFuck account. Why in the world would anyone want to be on a “social network” infested by wankers like this???

I saw all the comments on my phone at work and I have to say Scott, I am envious that you are so articulate in your words and thoughts. If anyone were to ask why I have been following you all these years I absolutely know it is the thing I most admire about you. I don’t think I do so poorly myself but you are just on a whole different level.
Oh, and you’re pretty damn funny too

It is just a matter that there is a funny smell.

I love how on his page, on May 30th, he said, “There are alot of freakin idiots here on FB. WTF! Im sick of having to block people. My blocked list consists of 38 idiots. WOW”.
You’d think at some point he would start to be a little more self-aware that maybe, just maybe, the problem isn’t the other people, if he had to block that many. But then I reminded myself that he is a gay, Romney supporter, which by definition is a person who lacks cognitive ability.

Glad to see you articulate the fact that the opposition (especially the tea party opposition) to Obama is principally racist. Many ignore this fact, perhaps afraid of the angry interchange that would follow. We should all stress it when the opportunity arises.

Those images are so degrading and vile, I actually feel a bit sick.
Thanks for taking on the arseholes and morons, Scott. Every bit helps – I really believe that.
