Hey little sister who's your Superman?

WHAT CHARLIE SAID!

“There is nothing for it now but than to say, flat-out, that Willard Romney has decided that the only way he can become president is to become a racist and to appeal to the racist base of his party. This is the second ad in as many weeks centered on the general theme of The Negro President Wants To Give Your Money To The Black People Like Him. . .”

Here’s the rest of Charlie’s piece.

The thing that fascinates me about this — beyond the obvious racist overtones — is that the Republicans can scream about how high the unemployment rate is, how hard it is to get a job, but then at the same time say they want to make any kind of social support dependent on your ability to get a job. Ummm….

How on earth can Romney stand there and tell people that their ability to get help — essentially their worthiness to be helped by their community — depends on their hireability, in one of the worst job markets we’ve seen? Clinton at least could push for welfare reform because the economy was in much better shape. But now? Seriously?

Maybe I’m just dense…or maybe I’m as racist as you claim Romney is, but honestly, I don’t see anything racist about the ad. Just because an ad talks about welfare, that doesn’t make it racist. People of all races, and people from urban, suburban, and rural America are on welfare. Where is the racism?

BTW…the ad is a complete lie…Obama did not end work for welfare programs, quietly or otherwise. What he did is hand more power to the states to determine how best to apply work for welfare programs in their states…something I would have thought the Republicans would applaud (states-rights and all that).

Truth and honesty is the biggest casualty of this Presidential race.

Well, here’s a question for ya, Jim — how many people other than Barack Obama did you see in that ad who had black skin?

This is classic dog-whistle politics where the optics of the ad — rather than just the words alone — drives the unspoken/underlying message and are what make it racist.

Lots of white people working diligently at their jobs while the black president is pictured juxtaposed with the lie that he doesn’t support work for welfare.

Because we all know that those young black bucks and those welfare queens don’t want to work, they just want to collect welfare, drive around in Cadillacs and talk on their iPhones that their welfare checks pay for and that are funded by the tax dollars of hard working white folk.

You know, all the white folk working diligently away who don’t need welfare and who are pictured in that scurrilous fucking ad.

Its an ad aimed at the people who will get and appreciate the message — white people with race anxiety.

This could have been produced by Lee Atwater — if he weren’t presently burning in hell for all eternity.

  4. Todd in DC Says:

I liked how the ad, in order to describe how Obama wanted to delete the work requirement for welfare, used a comment Barack made in 1998 to describe a 1996 law. Didn’t a lot of stuff happen in the past 15 or so years?

  5. Bob Says:

Scott — adding to your reply to Jim:
White people think Blacks are just about all of the welfare cheats.
White people think Blacks want to hang out, do drugs, and fuck White women, while talking loud and stealing your stuff.
White people think Black women have sex at 11 so they can get welfare for the kid, and because they are animals.
…… or, at least enough White people do that this ad has some pull on voters.
Remember, the Civil War is not over for many millions of Americans.

One reason for the persecution of Gays is that much of America misses being able to publicly blame everything on the Blacks and the Jews, so they settle for a group that it is still “OK to put down”

I’ve listened to a lot of arguments, mostly from people from the south, who claim that racism no longer exists (especially in the south). Nothing could be further from the truth. Although I live in New Zealand, I have relatives who live in Savannah, GA, and I’ve visited there many times. Black people in Savannah are treated as they always have been; as second class citizens. The racism is so blatant and caustic as to cause an “outsider” to puke at the obnoxious display of class warfare. This is the world of Romney/Ryan. Why any person with a set of moral values, much less the touted “christian values” that so many southern evangelicals espouce, would vote for either of these toads, is beyond me. Savannah is the slave culture from the 1800′s, having not changed a single iota since. I once was on a plane flying from ATL to SAV and I was in first class due to a major Delta screw up which stranded me in Orlando for two days over Xmas. The white, middle-aged woman seated next to me showed me her stunning photos of the Xmas parade (not a black person in sight), and when asked about the fact that a large number of white people continued to cling to the genocide of the civil war, her reply was “Oh, that bit of recent nastiness.” Enough said.
