Hey little sister who's your Superman?

LET ME JUST SAY THIS ABOUT THAT

For all you Obama Kool-Aid drinkers who took me to task in the comments and via email {that I’m still getting more of today} for calling Obama a coward for his craven disavowing of Joe Biden’s apparent stated support for gay marriage this past weekend and Obama’s ongoing refusal to come out in support of equal rights for ALL Americans — all I can say by way of an answer is this:

If, when you’re a young candidate for state senator back in 1996, you go on the record as supporting gay marriage, but then when you’re president you claim you do not, but that your views on the subject are “evolving” . . . . then you are a fucking coward.

Obama is going to be asked about all this in an interview later today.  This will be his chance to do the right thing, come out in support of equal rights, and shed some of the oft-times well deserved title of “Pussy-in-Chief”.

That is all

Or maybe he’s a politician trying to have it both ways? I have no problem with the president being taken to task for his stand on gay marriage. It’s not his strength. Cool. Very few will argue that; however, the folk who are really against gay marriage don’t see Obama as an ally. The folk from NOM think he’s no different than Dan Savage. That doesn’t change Obama’s mental gymnastics on the topic, but from where I stand he’s done a whole lot on the gay rights front. DADT? Gone. Defending DOMA? Not really? Selecting judges who possibly could be important in marriage equality cases. Yep. Is he coward on marriage? Sure, but DADT ended on his watch. I’ll take that political weakness every time.

I couldn’t agree more Scott. I actually just got done emailing Obama and stated that if he doesn’t endorse marriage equality I will not vote for him. I also stated that Mitt Romney is an asshole but at least I know where that bigot stands.

    So over him!

PS. OK so I was reading comments about the Folsom poster and HHBrent seriously cracked my shit up saying “it is as sexy as wallpaper paste.” LOL! It doesn’t rank high on my issues of importance BUT the poster is kind of “blah” for what is suppose to be something that pushes boundaries. Has SFO gone soft?!

Obama thinks he is a careful and clever politician.

I have deep issues with the phrase, “For me personally,” which feels like clever backstepping. A president should *never, ever* use the phrase “For me personally, ” except in private or in a memoir written years into retirement. He is the President–a public figure–and the correct phrasing is, “For the United States of America.” Anything less sounds as if he’s attempting to distance himself from taking a public stance on the issue.

Simply put, in the “For me personally” portion of the interview, he’s made zero attempt at making a public affirmation, and this is disappointing.

Also, slightly off track, but what took him so damn long to personally support gay marriage? You can point to dozens of people to the right of him who took this stance first. He makes it sound like an “evolved” position, but how can you regard the determination to relinquish a backwards, homophobic stance in any way evolved?

What took so long? What Scott said the other day: Obama thinks it’s icky. Why now? Because Biden shot his mouth off (in a way I loved, for a change) and put Obama in a tight spot.

This will be seen by some as Obama “caving in” to the LGBT community’s “demands.” And if he loses the election, I’ve got a good idea of where the blame’s going to fall.
